Pastel de tres leches

In the "Vineyard"

Sammy and I did a spin around the "vineyard" yesterday evening (I say "vineyard" because it's fledgling and tiny - 4 Marechal Foch vines, but I hope to add more). It was cold and northwest windy - difficult to get or stay in any kind of gardening mood. However, after seeing Cute Deer dining in the yard a couple of days ago, it is time to put the deer-repellent system in place so that C.D. doesn't eat the buds when they eventually spring forth on the vines.

there will be leaves! and grapes!
These high-tech deer-repellers are streamers that I cut from white crinkly plastic bags (this year's version from Mark's Work Wearhouse) and tie onto the vine supports; they blow in the wind and hopefully spook any wildlife that might be thinking about eating tender young grape leaves.

Sammy and I also paid a visit to the chickens who are still recovering from the massacre ...
sorry looking hens - lost many feathers in the fight

... and we swung by the herb garden to see what was new:

baby mint!
Sammy had fun surveying her dominion.
